Springfield Realtor® Wins National Award for Sheltering Homeless in Tiny Homes

WASHINGTON (October 6, 2020) – The National Association of Realtors® today announced Linda K. Brown, with Amax Real Estate in Springfield, Mo., as one of its five 2020 Good Neighbor Award winners. As cofounder of Eden Village, Brown transforms abandoned mobile home properties into villages of tiny homes that provide permanent housing to the chronically disabled homeless.

NAR’s Good Neighbor Awards honor 10 Realtors® annually for making an extraordinary impact on their communities through volunteer work. Over the past 21 years, the Good Neighbor Awards program has awarded nearly $1.4 million in grants to more than 200 Realtor®-led nonprofits. Their impact has been felt in 40 states, 15 countries and in Puerto Rico.

“Our Good Neighbor Award winners leave a remarkable impact on their communities every year, but everything these Realtors® have done in 2020 is even more impressive and more commendable,” said NAR President Vince Malta, broker at Malta & Co., Inc., in San Francisco, Calif. “I am proud to honor Linda Brown for dedicating so much time and passion to making sure people across her community have meals to eat and a safe place to sleep.”

To date, Brown and her husband have raised $4.75 million to place 36 tiny homes, with the goal of making Springfield a city “where no one sleeps outside.” To address the complex underlying issues related to homelessness, Eden Village has case managers, professionals to treat physical and mental heath issues, community activities and a food bank.

To read her full story go to magazine.realtor/LindaBrown. With the award, Brown will receive a $10,000 grant for her charity and will be featured in the November-December issue of Realtor® Magazine. In lieu of the traditional ceremony held every year at the REALTORS® Conference and Expo, each winner will also be honored by their local Realtor® associations over the coming months.

NAR’s Good Neighbor Awards program is supported by primary sponsor realtor.com® and Wells Fargo. Nominees were judged on their personal investment of time along with their financial and material contributions to benefit their cause. To be eligible, nominees must be NAR members in good standing.

“Congratulations to all of the Good Neighbor Award recipients, on behalf of everyone at realtor.com®,” said realtor.com® CMO Mickey Neuberger. “In an extraordinary year, these Realtors® inspire us to care about others and contribute to making our communities a better place.”
